If you are new to our website, I'd like to welcome you to Wilderness Lodge! If you are a returning visitor then you've already noticed that a lot has changed.....beginning with our website! The new site went up on New Years Eve, just in time to celebrate the start of a new year and the start of many wonderful new things here at the Lodge.
As you look through the website you will notice that we have added two more cabins, the Trapper's Cabin and the Tower. Both of these cabins are original to the resort, but time had taken its toll on them. Through a lot of hard work we have brought them, "back to life" and they will once again be welcoming guests this summer!
Another new addition, coming in June, is our Serenity Day Spa. The spa is located in the west wing of the Lodge and will be open to the public and our guests. Now you can indulge yourself with one of our sumptuous body treatments or massages as you relax in our beautifully decorated rooms overlooking the lake; or for a bit more adventure, try our exclusive "Massage Cruise" - a relaxing 1/2 hour lake tour followed by an on-board massage in a secluded bay.
2010 will also bring one of my long awaited dreams to fruition - to find a secluded place where we could offer Christian Retreats and host small group events. My vision took shape as soon as we set foot on the property twelve years ago. The historic log Lodge and cabins were everything I had ever dreamed of and the incredible peace and serenity that I felt as we walked along the shore, gazing out over the lake as two eagles soared overhead, convinced me that this was the perfect place to make it happen!
So despite the deteriorated condition of the buildings we purchased the property and put together a rather aggressive renovation plan. However, we quickly found out that things do not always go as planned! The extend of work that needed to be done far exceeded our expectations and we found ourselves with a proverbial "Money Pit" on our hands! But with spirits high, we kept moving forward and little by little, year after year, our hard work brought us a little closer to my dream.
Now I can finally say, the end is in sight! With just a few final projects to complete, I am now able to devote my time to doing what I love - teaching and developing new and exciting Retreat programs to share with our guests! So please take a few minutes to look through our Retreat page where you will find a list of the programs currently being offered.
If this weren't enough, Michael has also seen one of his dreams come to pass. His outfitting business, Yukon Jack Outfitters, will be featured on three Outdoor TV shows that will air on Fox Sports this year! The first two programs are fishing shows that will appear on "Outdoors in the Heartland" with hosts, Larry Woodard and Bob Richardson. Larry spent an exciting, action packed week with us last summer when Michael treated him to some world class Minnesota fishing on several area lakes and rivers.
Later that fall we also filmed a black bear hunt with Dan Young, host of "Outdoors Traditions TV" and the "Outdoor Dan" radio show. The hunt was a huge success and Dan was very pleased to have taken his first color phase bear!
We will post the dates and times the shows will air as soon as we receive the schedule.
So I think that just about wraps it up for the news around here! A lot has changed over the years, but one thing that has remained the same is the wonderful people who continue to cross our path. Some are just stopping in for a tour, others are staying as our guests, many have become dear friends, but each one brings a unique blessing to our lives and we are very grateful!
Happy New Year and God Bless!
